SNOWMOBILE
Bingham, Maine
Winter is the season when Maine
truly sparkles. There are many ways to enjoy our winter wonderland. Many
choose to just snuggle by the fire with a mug of steaming cocoa but that
won’t do for this trip.
As for the snowmobiles, Maine’s
Trail System is made up of hundreds of miles of designated trails –
stretching all the way to Canada. Our portion of the trail extends north
to the Forks, west to Rangeley Lakes and Northeast to Moosehead Lake.
This particular trail includes fresh powder, incredible scenery and
awesome riding for all skill levels.
SAMPLE ITINERARY
Day 1
7:00pm -
8:00pm – Drive up to base camp, about 4 hours from
Boston and 8 from NYC. Lodging is based on your level of roughing it.
Some opt for a cabin, others a platform and if bold, only a spot of land
for a tent, but I would trust the cabin in the winter.
8:00pm -
9:00pm – While waiting for everyone to arrive, take a
hike along the river and into the hills to see if you can spot and
befriend a moose. Head back to base to grab some food if hungry.
11:30pm -
2:00am – Once everyone is accounted for, catch up on old times and relive the same
stories you tell every time you all get together. Stay up beside the
fire, or crash early for a long day of trail riding tomorrow.
Day
2
8:00am -
9:00am – Grab breakfast at the main lodge and have a
copy of coffee while breathing in that fresh Maine air before everyone
else wakes up.
10:00am -
4:00pm – Meet your guide for the day, and be nice as he
controls how extreme this little off-road trip will be…hopefully he has
been guiding moms and kids all week and is looking to hit the rough
stuff with your crew of extremists. After stopping briefly for lunch you
will put your snowmobile through the paces, ripping through trails at
35+ mph, stopping occasionally for that one guy in the group who is
vehicular challenged and can’t get out of second gear, and probably does
not want to.
4:00pm -
7:00pm – Arrive back at base camp, brush off the snow
and shower up, before regrouping at the lodge for a dinner. After dinner
you will have time to explore, relax in the hot tub or prop open the
laptop to tell the office you are going to work remotely for a few
months so you can explore more of the hundreds of snowmobile trails.
7:00pm -
9:00pm – Final night before it is back to the city, so
might as well stay up and watch the sunrise, someone else can drive home
while you sleep in the back.
Day
3
10:00am –
11:00am – After breakfast, head back into civilization
via the scenic route for your chosen methods of departure after a
weekend to remember.
